Speeder in snow-covered car faces hefty finesBy Record staff CAMBRIDGE— A driver who seemed oblivious to the dangerous wintery driving conditions got a hard lessons in the rules of the road after he was slammed with $1,000 in potential fines. A Waterloo Regional Police officer was driving on the Conestoga Parkway on Wednesday evening at about 9:40 p.m., driving like other nearby drivers well below the posted speed limit because of the icy road conditions. The officer saw a black Jetta with snow-covered side windows speed past his marked cruiser and weave in and out of traffic. The cruiser followed the Jetta, clocking in on radar at well above the posted speed limit as it exited Highway 7/8 at Sportsworld Drive. The 23-year-old driver, a man from the Welland area, was ticketed for careless driving, following too closely, speeding and failing to clear his side windows. If convicted, he faces a potential $1,000 in fines and 14 demerit points.
