Fire destroys house between Bloomingdale and Maryhill
By Record staff BLOOMINGDALE — No one was injured as flames consumed a house northeast of Bloomingdale early Monday afternoon. The fire was reported at 12:02 p.m. Nobody was home at 1364 Durant Rd. when the first of 50 firefighters arrived from across Woolwich Township. The house was "fully involved" in flames, said township Fire Chief Rick Pederson. As of 2:20 p.m. firefighters were still trying to get at the seat of the flames. No damage estimate was immediately available. The building had a metal roof, which frustrated firefighters trying to get at the fire after walls partly collapsed. Firefighters shuttled water in four tanker trucks from a hydrant at Fountain Street near Victoria Street. There was little room to move trucks around the burning house with other buildings nearby. Pedersen said the -17 C temperature was also a challenge for firefighters trying to keep warm. They had to keep pumps running so water wouldn't freeze in hoses.
