Bridge demolition: Ottawa Street closed this weekend at Highway 7/8 in KitchenerAnother bridge razed as part of $96.1 million highway widening projectWaterloo Region Record By Record staff KITCHENER — Ottawa Street near Homer Watson Boulevard will close this weekend as another Highway 7/8 bridge is demolished. Ottawa Street is set to shut to Friday at 8 p.m. so workers can raze the eastbound Conestoga Parkway bridge over the road. Work is expected to be complete by 6 a.m. Monday. Traffic will be detoured along Homer Watson Boulevard, Hayward Avenue and Courtland Avenue. Highway traffic will continue to be diverted to the westbound bridge while the eastbound bridge is removed and later rebuilt. Ontario's transportation ministry is widening Highway 7/8 to six lanes between Highway 8 and the Kitchener-Wilmot Township boundary. Work on the $96.1-million project started in October 2011 and is expected to be completed by October 2016. As part of the work, bridges along the four-lane highway have been demolished and replaced with wider spans.
